An increasing number of snowmobile owners who are replacing their machines' factory-installed exhaust systems with ones that boost horsepower, but are noisier, are raising concerns among the Governor's Snowmobile Council, the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs and state recreation officials that the increase in noise could undermine public support for snowmobiling.
Fresh snow across much of Wisconsin last week and this week have improved snowmobile and cross-country ski trail conditions.
MADISON_Spring turkey hunting permits are being mailed this week to hunters who were successful in the permit drawing. More than 100,000 permits are being issued for the spring 1998 hunt, according to Keith Warnke, Department of Natural Resources upland wildlife ecologist.
