New 8-year driver's license law begins
MADISON--The new law requiring eight-year driving licenses became effective Feb. 1, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley celebrated National Women and Girls in Sports Day with a lock-in at Knowles Center at UW-River Falls on Jan. 31.



Reconstruction of Hwy. 35 stretch approved
A $1,626,181 contract with Hoffman Construction Companies of Black River Falls to reconstruct a 4.1-mile stretch of Hwy. 35 (Great River Road) in Pierce County has been authorized by Gov. Tommy Thompson.



Crop insurance sale closing date is March 15
The sale closing date for 1998 crop insurance is Sunday, March 15, for corn, grain, sorghum, soybeans, spring wheat (spring wheat counties), oats, barley, forage seeding and hybrid seed corn, according to Pierce County FSA Director Robert Hendrickson.
