Sylva M. Place, 94

SPRING VALLEY--Sylva M. Place, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at South Shore Care Center, Worthington, Minn. She was 94.

She was born Nov. 13, 1903, in Spring Valley, the daughter of Otto and Julia (Ellertson) Aamodt. She attended school in Gilman Township and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1923.

On Aug. 10, 1926, she married Edmund Place. He died Aug. 18, 1974. They lived in River Falls for a number of years and later moved to St. Paul. Following retirement, they moved to Sioux Falls.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and active in her church work all her life. She became a resident of South Shore Care Center in December, 1997.

Survivors include: one daughter, Audrey, and her husband Dale Hardwick of Worthington; one son, Erling Place and his wife Betty of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Freiberg of Spring Valley; one sister-in-law, Signa Place of Spring Valley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Edmund; brothers, Russell, Raymond and Harry Aamodt; and sister, Elma Brohough.

Visitation was held Monday at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley. Funeral services were to be Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Rev. Keith Holste was to officiate the service with music provided by organist Dorothy Anderson with congregational singing.

Burial was to be in Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley. Bearers were to be: Dean Aamodt, Larry Aamodt, Robert Freiberg, Merlin Place, Mike Place and Adolph Halvorson.

Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, handled arrangements.
