Hastings approves 89-unit apartment building in Glendale Heights
The Hastings City Council has approved the final plat and site plan for an 89-unit apartment building in the Glendale Heights neighborhood.
The building will be built on a 4.74-acre parcel of land located north of Eagle Pointe Apartments on Voyageur Parkway.
The construction of the apartment building will provide housing for over 100 residents.
"We have a demand for apartments and demand for high quality apartments so hopefully this will meet that demand," said John Hinzman, the city's community development director.
The building will consist of a three story, 89-unit apartment building with detached garages and parking. There would be a total of 178 parking spaces made up of a mixture of garages and surface parking. The site plan shows that the building will consist of a cultured stone cap along the lower elevations and various colors of fiber cement board siding.
Concern for a park was brought during an Oct. 16 council discussion.
"There is a ton of kids and there isn't any playground or play structure that's relatively close," said council member Lori Braucks.
Council member Lisa Leifeld echoed Bracks' sentiment about the need for a park. She said that with creating additional housing, there will likely be more children living in the area and a park should be addressed.
Two 80 unit apartment buildings were originally planned for this site. In 2003, the city council approved the property as part of a second addition preliminary plat. Hinzman said that some building requirements are different than what they were in 2003, so the city has now approved the 89-unit building.
INH Properties will be constructing the building on the property.
