Former Hudson man named Alaska Commissioner of Administration Scott J. Nordstrand has been appointed Alaska Commissioner of Administration by Governor Frank H. Murkowski. Nordstand, 46, is a lawyer who grew up in Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1976. He is the son of Dennis and Dorothy Nordstrand. Prior to his state service, Nordstrand worked for 15 years as an attorney in private practice in Anchorage primarily focusing on employment and commercial litigation issues. Nordstrand joins the governor's senior cabinet after serving for three years as the deputy attorney general supervising the Civil Division in the Alaska Department of Law. Prior to his state service, Nordstrand worked for 15 years as an attorney in private practice in Anchorage primarily focusing on employment and commercial litigation issues. The commissioner previously served as a law clerk for the North Dakota State District Court and earlier as a staff assistant to U.S. Senator Mark Andrews, R-ND. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth District in addition to Alaska state and federal courts. As the legal department's Civil Division chief, Nordstrand was directly involved in significant legislative initiatives that affect and are administered in the Department of Administration. "Commissioner Nordstrand's professional background makes him uniquely qualified to take the helm at the Department of Administration," said Murkowski. "Both his public service and his private practice have given him insight into many issues that the department faces on a daily basis." Civil Division attorneys provide legal counsel to 16 Department of Administration divisions and agencies. Nordstrand received his JD degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1987. He received his bachelor's degree in political science and history from UW-River Falls in 1984. Published 08:48 Oct-25-05 | TOP |
