More details of Hudson accident released

By Meg Heaton

A 31-year-old Hudson woman was airlifted to Regions Hospital, St. Paul, from the scene of a vehicle accident at Hanley Road and Industrial Street last week. She is listed in serious condition but is expected to recover.

According to the Hudson Police Department report, the accident took place on June 13 around 5 p.m. Debra Hoople, 31, 2137 Thistle Way, was driving a 2000 Ford Expedition westbound on Hanley Road in the intersection with Industrial Street when she was struck by a 99 Dodge Intrepid driven by Patricia Weigand, 47, of River Falls.

Weigand was northbound on Industrial and hit Hoople's vehicle in the area of the driver's side door.

Hoople's vehicle was pushed over the curb by the impact and overturned onto its hood. She was ejected from the vehicle through the driver's side window and landed in the street.

Hoople's injuries were serious according to investigating officer Eric Atkinson and required that she be airlifted from the scene by LifeLink to Regions. The helicopter landed on Industrial Street.

Hoople's three children, ages 7, 6 and 3, were in her vehicle at the time of the accident. Two of the children were treated for minor injuries and released. Weigand was not injured.

Atkinson said that while several people heard the accident happen and were on the scene after it happened, they have yet to find a witness that saw the impact occur. The Wisconsin State Patrol Total Station Unit was called in to help reconstruct the accident using a computer program. The report indicates that Weigand was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. Hoople was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.

Anyone who was an eyewitness to the impact is asked to call Atkinson at HPD at 386-4771.
