Kind plans telephone town hall meeting tomorrow

Rep. Ron Kind, D-Wis., plans a live telephone town hall discussion from 6:15 -7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The talk will focus on Social Security, Medicare and the economy.

Telephone technology allows Kind to set up a large-scale conference call involving potentially thousands of Third Congressional District constituents.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, a random selection of households will receive a call from Rep. Kind, inviting them to participate.

Individuals will have the option of staying on the line to hear a few comments by Kind, followed by the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.

Constituents may also dial into the telephone town hall by calling 1.866.447.5149, and entering the code 13433.

The first telephone town hall garnered approximately 3,500 participants and much positive feedback.

"Sometimes for work, family or health reasons, it can be difficult for people to attend a conventional town hall meeting," Kind said. "This way, people can participate from their own home."

Hudson -- Storey acquitted of sex assault trial

Accused in 2003 rape incident at Somerset campground

A rape case that has been simmering in St. Croix County since an investigation nearly five years ago has been resolved in a jury trial.

The 12-person panel found Lucas John Storey, 29, Altoona, Iowa, innocent of one count each of first-degree and second-degree sex assault Thursday afternoon. Storey was accused of having non-consensual sexual intercourse with a 19-year-old woman at a campsite in Float-Rite Park in Somerset on July 23, 2003.

The jury returned its verdict at 1:48 p.m. April 3.

The woman told investigators she lost consciousness in a tent and awoke to find three unknown males having simultaneous sexual intercourse with her without consent.

A sample of Storey's DNA matched a sperm sample taken from the young woman's clothing, court records said. A felony complaint was filed Oct. 12, 2005 and Storey made an initial appearance in St. Croix County on Nov. 30, 2005.

The panel consisted of eight women and six men including two alternates in the trial that began with jury selection April 1.
