Clean Sweep recycling events set for St. Croix County

Several opportunities are scheduled for St. Croix County residents to recycle electronics, hazardous waste, tires and appliances.

* Saturday, May 17: Clean Sweep hazardous waste collection for households, farms and small businesses, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the county highway shop located just east of Hudson on Hwy 12. Households, and farms with up to 500 pounds of waste, are fee-exempt.

Small businesses (those generating no more than 200 pounds of waste per month) may participate but will be charged. Farms and businesses must pre-register by May 14 by calling (715) 386-4675. Latex paint and used oil will not be accepted. Fluorescent bulbs and oil filters will be accepted for a fee.

* Saturday, June 7, tire collection, at four sites: Hudson (285 Krattley Lane, Hudson Rod, Gun & Archery Club), towns of Somerset, Richmond and Hammond. Cost is $2 for a car tire (up to 16 inches), $3 for trucks (17-22 inches), $7 for tractors, $10 for heavy equipment and 50 cents for bicycle tires.

* Saturday, June 7, appliance collection, three sites: Hudson (285 Krattley Lane, Hudson Rod, Gun & Archery Club), town of Somerset and village of Woodville. Prices are $11 for most appliances, $16 for air conditioners and water softeners.

* Saturday, June 14, electronics Collection at the Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, Hudson, 9 a.m.-noon. Prices are $15 for complete computer (monitor, CPU, keyboard) $15 for monitors, $3-5 for printers, $3 for VCRs, $15 for microwaves, $15 for plastic TVs and $25 for wood TVs.

Accepted for free are laptops, CPU's, keyboards, circuit boards and cell phones. All other computer and related equipment will be collected for a fee ($3-$25) based on its size.

* Saturday, Sept. 6, electronics collection at WITC, New Richmond Campus, 1019 S. Knowles Ave., 9 a.m.-noon. Prices are the same as for the June 14 collection.

* Saturday, Sept. 20, Clean Sweep hazardous waste collection in New Richmond at the street department shop, 1006 N. Dakota Ave., 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

* Saturday, Sept. 20, appliance collection, two sites: Glenwood City and town of Richmond. Prices are $11 for most appliances, $16 for air conditioners and water softeners.
