• Hudson -- Sheriff fills captain's position

St. Croix County Sheriff Dennis Hillstead announced Thursday that deputy Scott L. Knudson has been promoted to patrol captain.

Knudson, 36, hails from Somerset. He joined the department in January 1996 and started on the jail staff. He moved up the ranks to sergeant, then made lieutenant last spring.

Knudson is a graduate of the school of police staff command. The 10-week program was conducted by Northwestern University at Chippewa Falls early this year and included courses in management, organizational behavior and human resources.

Knudson fills the position vacated when Mike Winberg was demoted in May following an OWI arrest.

Hillstead said he three patrol positions to fill then will promote current patrol officers to investigators.

The investigative staff has been particularly hard hit by retirement with five moving on over the last 13 months.
