Unusual chute response claims life of Chippewa skydiver A Chippewa Falls man died because of an unusual skydiving accident that occurred at the Baldwin Sky Diving Club, on County Road J on the west edge of the village of Baldwin. Upon arrival, St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies found that CPR was being done on Todd Jacobson, 39. The accident occurred at about 2:18 p.m. on Friday. Witnesses said Jacobson was sky diving with a group and his chute deployed normally, but just prior to landing made an abrupt turn so the man was at a 45 degree angle to the ground. He landed face down. Officials said it isn't currently known why this happened. Jacobson was transported to the Baldwin Area Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:07 p.m. He was an experienced skydiver, having recorded several thousand jumps, officials said. The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's department. Published 02:06 Aug-09-08 | TOP |
