Hudson home damaged by fire

Fire did major damage to the Ronald and Marian Sake residence at 1808 Willow Drive in the city of Hudson Thurday afternoon.

Nick Reitano, a Hudson Middle School eighth-grader, was in his family's backyard when he noticed the bushes bordering the Sakes' yard on fire. Reitano then saw flames coming from the Sakes' attached garage. Moments later there was a loud explosion.

The Hudson Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at about 3:15 p.m. in response to Reitano's 911 call.

Hudson update -- Rock staff member has confirmed case of H1N1

A Hudson school has its first confirmed case of the H1N1 influenza virus. The School District was notified on June 4 that a staff member at E.P. Rock Elementary had been infected.

According to information from the district, the employee is no longer at school and will remain absent until Monday per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations.

Precautionary measures at E.P. Rock recommended by the St. Croix County Public Health Department include:

--Monitoring students and staff for signs and symptoms of the H1N1 influenza virus.

--Sending home students and staff with symptoms.

--Allowing students or staff to return to school only when all symptoms are gone or a health provider has confirmed that the illness is not H1N1.

--Increasing cleaning and disinfection practices throughout the school.

--Providing all staff and families with information on H1N1 influenza.

--Reviewing proper hand washing procedures with students.

E. P. Rock will remain open based on the recommendations from the CDC. Information about H1N1 influenza is available at the District's website www.hudson.k12.wi.us
