Hudson dentist convicted in Medicaid fraud

A Hudson dentist was convicted of Medicaid fraud Tuesday in a plea bargain that reduced six of the original felony counts to misdemeanors.

Anthony R. Sahchez, 36, 243 W. Canyon Dr., pleaded no contest to three counts of medical assistance offense. Three more counts were read into the record for restitution and dismissed and a misdemeanor count of presenting a fraudulent insurance claim was dismissed.

Sanchez was ordered to pay a $3,500 fine on each conviction within 60 days and write a letter of apology to the victims within 30 days.

The criminal complaint filed by the Wisconsin Department of Justice said Sanchez told patients they required root canals that Medicaid did not cover. The patients were charges between $400 and $775 for the procedure, which Medicaid actually did cover.

In another incident, Sanchez billed a private insurance company for providing porcelain/ceramic crowns when he used an inferior product. He also required Medicaid patients to pay $50 to make an appointment, the complaint said.

The case was investigated by the fraud control unit of the Department of Justice.
