Hudson -- Rott sentenced in home intrusion A man who impersonated a law officer and broke into a house and shot two persons has been sentenced to prison. Justin Glen Rott, 26, Eau Claire, pleaded guilty Monday to felony charges of aggravated battery and substantial battery with intent to do bodily harm. Judge Edward F. Vlack sentenced Rott to four and one-half years in prison and five years extended supervision. He was also fined $645 and ordered to pay restitution. Rott was arrested after an Aug. 1 break-in at a Main St. Wilson residence. Maria Erickson was shot in the leg and her husband Tom was shot in the stomach when an intruder broke into their home about 11 p.m. The intruder told the couple he was from the sheriff's department and demanded cash and drugs. A struggle ensued and five shots were fired. One hit Maria in the leg, one grazed Tom's forearm and one hit him in the stomach, the St. Croix County sheriff's report said. Rott was charged with the crime and arrested while he was being held at the Eau Claire County jail late last August on a parole violation. Published 08:43 Dec-29-09 | TOP |
Hudson -- Charges pending in St. Croix Heights shooting By Meg Heaton mheaton@rivertowns.net It has been almost nine weeks since a Hudson father, armed with a gun, was shot by police outside of his St. Croix Heights home. According to Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen, Daniel Craig Christenson, 43, has been released from the hospital but is still recovering from injuries at his mother's home in the Twin Cities. Jensen said that his department is keeping tabs on Christenson and said he has not been arrested because he still requires regular medical care. "He's not going anywhere in the shape he is in. We're monitoring him." The investigation into the case has been completed by the department and has been referred to the St. Croix County District Attorney's office for charges. Jensen added that Christenson has hired an attorney. Just after midnight on Oct. 18, Christenson was shot as he exited his house armed with a gun aimed at officers. The nine-hour standoff at 1321 St. Croix Heights began with a frantic 911 call from his son Zachary, 19, who was inside the house with three friends when his father began firing a gun in the home around 5 p.m. on Oct. 17. The teens were able to escape through a basement window in the home but not before Zachary was shot at by his father. One of the teens, Nate Livermore, was injured when a police dog at the scene, attacked him as he exited the basement. He underwent surgery on his arm as a result of the dog bite but has recovered according to his mother, Tara Tuchel. Despite attempts to contact Christenson in order to negotiate a surrender, St. Croix County deputies, members of the Emergency Response Unit, were forced to fire on the man.
