Somerset-Elk Mound football playoff game moved to Colfax Saturday's WIAA Level 3 playoff game between Somerset and Elk Mound has been moved. The game will now be played at Colfax High School. The game will still be played at 3 p.m. The Division 5 playoff game was originally scheduled to be played at Elk Mound, but concerns over the condition of the Elk Mound field led the WIAA to change the site for the game. Elk Mound is the host school and they will sell tickets at the gate, so there will be no pre-sale of game tickets. Published 10:48 Nov-04-04 | TOP |
New Richmond Kiwanis Club celebrates 85th anniversary Nearly a century after it first began, the New Richmond Kiwanis Club continues to share its platform of community service throughout the area. The service organization, first founded locally in 1919, is marking its 85th anniversary this week. The celebration will culminate Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. with a special dinner and historical presentation by club member Bob Peirson at Suzanna's Restaurant in New Richmond. Social hour for the event begins at 5:30 p.m. Current President Kirk Lindell will provide recognition to past presidents. There will also be a silent auction. Brought to New Richmond by Ralph W. McCoy, then a cashier at the Bank of New Richmond, the Kiwanis Club received its charter in 1920 to become the 81st such club to be created after the original Michigan club began four years earlier in Detroit. New Richmond was the smallest community to have such a club with just 50 members. But the desire of local businessmen to have a venue to promote and exchange ideas to better the community brought the club to New Richmond. Grain exchange opens in the Town of Emerald TOWN OF EMERALD --More than 112,000 bushels of corn were brought into the Four Corners Grain Exchange during business hours on Oct. 14. The record amount was dumped from about 120 trucks, some of which made numerous trips to the plant throughout the day. "It's easy to get to. I can take highways for most of the drive," said one driver. Though trucks lined the drive, they made their rounds in little time. "The average turn-around time from weigh-in to weigh-out was 10 to 15 minutes," said Randy Hansen, manager for Precision Ag Services, Goldstar's agronomy division. It's estimated that the Four Corners Grain Exchange can dump 150 trucks per day. At the same time, the facility was hosting an open house. An estimated 120 people showed up to learn more about the facility and take advantage of gifts and a free lunch. "I heard many very optimistic comments," said Larry Wojchik, Goldstar Cooperative general manager. Visitors crowded the office area and made themselves at home around the state-of-the-art facility. The Four Corners Grain Exchange sits on the rail line adjacent to Goldstar Cooperatives agronomy facility, Precision Ag Services. It began taking grain in late September. A 262,000 bushel-capacity bin, two fully enclosed dump pits, and a 15,000-bushel per hour unloading capacity are all draws for area producers. The exchange is a joint venture between Goldstar Cooperative, New Richmond, and Ace Ethanol, Stanley. Grain brought into the New Richmond facility is shipped via rail to Ace Ethanol. Ace Ethanol was formed in 2002 and was the first large-scale ethanol plant in Wisconsin. A recent expansion doubled the size of the plant. Currently, 40,000 bushels of corn are ground per day. Goldstar Cooperative is a member-owned cooperative providing products and services to farms, homes, and businesses in northwestern Wisconsin. The Four Corners Grain Exchange will be open 12 months per year. For information, call (866) 449-2929 or jbisek@aceethanol.com. Published 18:37 Nov-04-04 | TOP |
