New Richmond Relays heighten drama for Tuesday's Middle Border track meet

The drama leading into Tuesday's Middle Border Conference Track Meet was heightened with a controversial finish to Friday's New Richmond Relays.

It was first announced that Osceola's boys team had won the championship in The Relays. But the Chieftains had been disqualified in the final event of the night, the 1600 meter relay. So after Osceola had been awarded the championship trophy, it was announced that New Richmond was the actual meet champion.

There was no questioning the champion in the girls meet. Osceola's girls won the title with an 11-point margin over second place New Richmond.

These results show how closely matched the teams will be in Tuesday's Middle Border Conference Track Meet, which will be held at Somerset High School. New Richmond and Osceola are expected to duke it out for the boys conference track championship. There are four teams that believe they have a shot at winning the 2008 girls title, Osceola, Somerset, New Richmond and Ellsworth.
