• Fatal accident investigated in Town of Springfield

Law enforcement personnel are on the scene of a one-vehicle rollover in the 3000 block of 100th Avenue in the Town of Springfield.

Glenwood City Fire Department and EMS personnel, along with St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, were dispatched around 9 a.m. to the scene of the accident. Officials were unsure when the accident occurred -- possibly during the night.

A homeowner along the road found the overturned pickup. One passenger appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle and initial responders indicated that the person died.

Interstate 94 road work in Minnesota near the St. Croix River will cause additional delays over the coming days.

Motorists could encounter delays on westbound I-94 near Hudson through early next week while work continues on the Minnesota Department of Transportation's concrete repair project.

Depending on the weather, crews will continue to pour concrete during the overnight hours, which will close two lanes in the westbound direction. Motorists can expect the double lane closure to occur between today (Friday) and next Wednesday, primarily between 7 p.m.-5 a.m. Additional days may be needed to complete the work.

The entire project is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 31, weather permitting.

Joseph J. Anderson, 34, Baldwin, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on 100th Avenue in the Town of Springfield Friday.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the scene of the accident at 8:36 a.m. Friday, approximately a half mile east of Highway 128 on 100th Avenue.

A 1999 GMC pickup, driven by Anderson, was apparently eastbound when the vehicle left the roadway, rolled and struck some trees. Anderson was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report, as he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

This is the 11th vehicular fatality of 2009 in St. Croix County. The crash remains under investigation.
