Early morning fires destroy home near Erin Prairie, rural Somerset business Early morning fires kept St. Croix County fire departments busy each of the past two mornings. Early Wednesday, four fire departments were called out to a fire at a building which housed the Aqua Mates swimming pool business and shop. Many of the resident's vehicles and recreational vehicles were also stored in the barn, according to Somerset chief Travis Belisle. Fire departments from Somerset, St. Joseph, Hudson and Stillwater, Minn., battled the fire, which was called in at 4:12 a.m. The building was a total loss as well as all contents inside. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, the New Richmond Fire Department was called to a structure fire on the 1900 block of 170th Avenue. The owner of the home was awakened by his dog to find the main floor of the four-story house engulfed in flames. The house was built in the 1800s. The fire originated in the basement. New Richmond fire chief Jim Vander Wyst said firefighters from the Baldwin, Deer Park, Hammond, Roberts and Somerset fire departments all took turns battling the fire in the sub-zero cold. Members of the fire departments were on site for more than 13 hours. The house was a total loss.
