Plum City rallies to beat Elk Mound PLUM CITY - The Plum City volleyball team trailed two games to one against Elk Mound Tuesday night in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. But the Lady Devils rallied to force Game 5. Plum City fought off three match points after trailing 14-13 in the final game and came away with a 3-2 victory. Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 25-17, 16-14. "It was a fight, that's for sure," Plum City coach Laurie Peterson said. "We've learned that we can't take anyone lightly in the conference. Elk Mound hit really well, and our defense wasn't as good as it has been." Christina Lindstrom gave the Lady Devils a spark off the bench. She went 12 of 12 from the service line with four aces. "She gave us some nice serves and filled in really well," Peterson said. Nicole Luebker had a nice all-around performance for Plum City. She finished with 12 digs, nine kills, two blocks and two ace serves. Megan Peterson ripped 15 kills and added two blocks. Kristy Churchill went 18 of 18 from the service line and finished with 35 set assists. Megan Fetzer had 12 kills, and Kelsey Fredrickson added 15 digs. "We made a lot of little mistakes early. We cleaned things up in the fourth and fifth games," coach Peterson said. Plum City improved to 17-17 overall and 6-1 in the Dunn-St. Croix. Published 13:59 Oct-06-04 | TOP |
Snags delay pact signing between Ellsworth creamery By Sean Scallon, Rivertown Staff Writer ELLSWORTH - A yearlong contract between the Village of Ellsworth and the Ellsworth Co-op Creamery involving use of the local wastewater treatment plant has not been signed and is facing further delays, according to Public Works Director Greg Engeset. "The issue is back again and it's running around in circles," Engeset told Village Board members Monday. "We thought this was a done deal and now they come back at the 11th hour with a lot of questions." The dispute concerns a clause in the contract saying the village wants to prohibit short-term extensions at the end of this contract in June 2005. "I told them don't sign this unless we both agree as to how this is interpreted," Engeset said. Creamery Manager Ken McMahon said the co-op has questions over the extension clause. The creamery plans to treat all of its wastewater on-site with its own facility. However, the creamery hasn't yet received a required permit from the state Department of Natural Resources. Engeset said he could understand why the creamery may be hedging its bets. "From their standpoint, right now they don't have a permit from the DNR and, if that process doesn't work out, or if they do get a permit and find out they can't meet state regulations, they may not want to be on their own." McMahon said the difficulty of the permit process is contributing to the delay. "We hoped to have the permit by now, but it may be a ways off," McMahon said. "We're working diligently to get it." Board members say they are not opposed to signing another long-term deal with the creamery. Get more on this story in this week's print edition of the Pierce County Herald.
