• One dead after early morning fire in Ellsworth
• Pierce County Weekend Scoreboard

One person was dead and at least one other injured early Sunday after a structure fire in a two-story rental house in Ellsworth.

Firefighters were called to 244 S. Piety St. at 4:15 a.m. where a local police officer was reporting visible flames and smoke and at least two people trapped on the second floor.

Ellsworth Ambulance requested help from Prescott and LifeLink as it appeared there might be multiple victims.

One person was later transported to River Falls Area Hospital and a LifeLink helicopter was landed at the Pierce County Highway Dept. and its medical team was transported to the fire scene to assist with a patient there.

The home is located about two blocks south of Hwy. 10 and only about four blocks east of the Ellsworth fire station.

A state fire marshall had been requested to the scene, as had the county medical examiner.

Emergency crews were still on the scene as of 7 a.m. and investigation was expected to continue through the morning.
