Packer Rundown: Morency gets tested today, Pats cameraman at Lambeau, new QB signed By Wheeler News Service The Green Bay Packers will start practicing today (Wednesday) for their Sunday match-up against the Giants at New York. Running back Vernand Morency will again test his injured knee in a full workout. Head Coach Mike McCarthy will then see how he feels Thursday. The same thing applies to receiver Greg Jennings, who missed last Sunday's win over Philadelphia with a bad hamstring. The status of corner Al Harris is not totally certain, but both he and the coaches expect him to play against the Giants. Harris sprained his right elbow during punt coverage against the Eagles. Playing prospects are also uncertain for safety Aaron Rouse, offensive tackle Tony Moll, and guard Jason Spitz. Run-in with Pats cameraman The Packers are being dragged into a controversy involving the alleged stealing of signals by the New England Patriots. The New York Jets said they caught a Patriots' video photographer filming their bench last Sunday and they want the NFL to investigate. Now, ESPN.com says a Patriots' cameraman was told to stop filming at Lambeau Field last November when the Pats were whipping Green Bay 35-0. Packers' spokesman Jeff Blumb confirms the team shut down the photographer before the start of the second quarter, because he was not part of the approved camera pool for the game. He said the Packers did not confiscate his video and did not accuse him of stealing signals. He said the man then went behind the New England bench and worked with their team of still-photographers. Blumb said the Packers had no proof of anything. He called it a strange incident. New QB signed The Green Bay Packers signed quarterback Dalton Bell and offensive guard Cameron Stephenson to the practice squad, Ted Thompson, Packers general manager announced Tuesday. To make room on the squad the team released tight end Clark Harris and quarterback Paul Thompson. from the practice squad. Bell is from West Texas A&M and finished his collegiate career with 7,779 passing yards and 62 touchdowns. He guided the team to back-to-back Lone Star Conference Championships the past two seasons and compiled a 20-4 record as a starter. Bell signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in May and was released in the team's final roster reduction. Stephenson was a fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2007 NFL Draft. From Rutgers, Stephenson played on the defensive line as a 2005 junior before switching to offensive line as a senior. Published 09:49 Sep-12-07 | TOP |

The Moving Wall: Half-sized rendition of Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be in Trimbelle Sept. 20-24 By Jon Echternacht, RiverTown Staff The Vietnam Memorial is coming to the area this month - not the real stone wall permanently located among the other war memorials in Washington, D.C., but the moving wall, a half-sized replica that has traveled around the country since 1984. Chapter 331 of the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Association is sponsoring the event from Sept. 20-24 at the Gas Lite field on Hwy. 10 at Trimbelle. Lee Meyer, 60, a town of St. Joseph resident and Vietnam combat veteran, is vice president of VVA Chapter 331. "We want to make people aware of the wall, especially students," he said during a recent conversation. Meyer said Friday, Sept. 21, is a day targeted to get students interested in visiting the wall. "We are offering a scholarship to a high school senior who visits the wall and writes the best essay on his experience and a savings bond to a middle school student for an essay about the wall," he said. Meyer said the wall display will be open from dusk to dawn through the period. "The opening ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 20) and will include a color guard and presentation of the KIA (killed in action) wreath. A C-230 cargo plane flyover from the Minnesota Air National Guard is planned for opening day, an F-15 flyover is set for Friday and an appearance by an RV-14 Navy aircraft on the final day. There are no scheduled programs for Saturday. The original Vietnam wall is a granite structure with the names of the more than 58,000 who died in the Southeast Asian conflict. The traveling wall is a smaller 126.5-foot by 126.5-foot version made out of aluminum panels that include all the names. "There will be a computer on hand for visitors to look up a name and volunteers to help locate it on the wall," Meyer said. The moving wall has traveled around the country since it first went on display at Tyler, Texas, in October 1984. Two structures now travel the U.S. from April through November. The wall makes an appearance at Cherokee, Iowa, before moving to this area. Its next scheduled stop is at Warrens in south central Wisconsin Sept. 27-Oct. 1. Previous trips to Wisconsin included Milwaukee in 1987 and 2000, Sheboygan 1989, Waupaca 1992, Neillsville 1993 and 1998, Oshkosh 1994, Green Bay 1995, Waukesha 1998, Manitowoc 1999, Park Falls, 2000, Arcadia and Oconomowoc 2002, Racine 2005 and Brookfield 2006. Meyer said it cost about $5,000 to sponsor the wall so the VVA chapter has thrown some fund-raisers for the event. He estimated it will take an additional $2,000 or more to put everything in place on site. Additional expenses include food and beverages for the healthy number of volunteers it takes to set up the project. The VVA Chapter 331 Meeting Hall, which is across the parking lot from the wall display at Gas Lite Field, will serve as a Vietnam War museum for the event, Meyer said. "The wall will be on the campground field at Trimbelle with a river running behind it," Meyer said. "It takes about six hours to assemble and five to six hours to take down. Trimbelle is located near the intersection of County O and Hwy. 10 five miles west of Ellsworth or about 12 miles east of Prescott on Hwy. 10. The wall will be located in the field on the south side of Hwy. 10. Published 10:01 Sep-12-07 | TOP |
