• 90-year-old airlifted after four-vehicle accident in Pierce County

A 90-year-old man from Cadott had to be airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul following a four-vehicle accident in Pierce County Wednesday afternoon.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Highways 10 and 63, just west of Ellsworth in the Town of Trimbelle at around 2:45 p.m.

Authorities say that Alvin Lanou was in the westbound lane of Highway 10 and making a turn south onto Highway 63 when his vehicle was hit by a semi-truck which was eastbound on Highway 10.

The semi was driven by Arnold Sarnstrom, 69, Ellsworth.

The two vehicles then came to rest in the northbound lane of Highway 63 after striking two other vehicles which were waiting at the stop sign of the intersection.

Lanou was airlifted from the scene by a Life Link III helicopter to Regions where on Thursday morning a hospital spokesperson said he was in serious condition.

None of the other individuals involved in the accident were injured.

The Ellsworth ambulance and fire departments assisted on the scene. Authorities say the accident remains under investigation.
