Rose leaves Elmwood to take Cumberland post

By Jason Schulte, RiverTown Staff

ELMWOOD--It was a chance Barry Rose felt he couldn't pass up.

Rose, who has been superintendent of the Elmwood School District for the last six years, was intrigued with the superintendent opening at Cumberland.

"In this business, the windows of opportunity are small," Rose explained. "Professionally and family-wise, I thought this was a good opportunity. I jumped on it and it worked out."

Rose submitted his resignation to the Elmwood School Board at last week's meeting, effective June 30. He starts at Cumberland July 1. He replaces Don Grothe, who is retiring after 10 years.

Cumberland, which is located 10 miles north of Turtle Lake, is a district of about 1,200 students in PreK-12. Meanwhile, Elmwood has about 360.

"I'm excited about the opportunities my kids (Brady, eighth grader, and Payton, third grader) will have athletically and in the classroom," Rose said. Barry and wife Tammy also have another son, Cody, who is in his first year at UW-Madison.

Work may slow eastbound I-94 traffic near Menomonie

Travelers taking Interstate 94 east through the Menomonie area can expect some delays on Wednesday.

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say that the passing lane on eastbound I-94 near the Stokke Parkway overpass in Dunn County will be reduced to one lane between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. b

A drill crew will be taking soil-boring samples for a future replacement of the overpass.

Officials say motorists using I-94 can expect congestion and some delays between Highway 25 and Dunn County B.

In case of inclement weather, officials say the testing will take place on Thursday.
