• Pair taken to hospital after vehicle enters river

A pair was taken to an area hospital early Wednesday after the vehicle they're riding in entered a river.

Eric G. Holtz, 37, Red Wing and Cindy L. McKinley, 31, Hager City, were riding in a vehicle on County Highway O, south of 480th Ave. in the town of Trimbelle, when their vehicle left the roadway, rolled and entered a small river around 4:04 a.m., according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Both Holtz and McKinley were able to exit the vehicle before responders could arrive. The Sheriff's Department said they aren't sure at this time on what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Holtz and McKinley were both transported by Ellsworth Area Ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital. A spokesperson there said that Holtz has been transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, while McKinley has been treated and released.

Ellsworth Fire Department was also at the accident scene along with the Sheriff's Department and Ellsworth Area Ambulance.

The Sheriff's Department added that the accident remains under investigation.
