• DOT officials to hold public meeting on proposed changes to deadly intersection

A project to realign and reconstruct part of the intersection of Pierce County Highway E and Highway 10 will be the subject of a June 23 public information meeting by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

DOT officials say the meeting will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Pierce County Highway Department office which is located at 621 Cairns St. in Ellsworth.

The proposed project would focus on 700 feet of the north leg of Pierce County E with the goal to improve the safety of the intersection.

The intersection was the site of a fatal accident that claimed the life of UW-River Falls Chancellor Ann Lydecker in July 2004.

Officials say that in order to make the proposed changes to the intersection right-of-way acquisition will be needed along Pierce County E.

DOT officials are encouraging the public to attend the meeting and to provide input on the project. Maps showing the proposed changes will be on display at the meeting.
