Packers' stockholders told Favre not coming back By Wheeler News Service If you still think Brett Favre might return as the Packers' starting quarterback this fall - well, let's just say the team's owners have been told otherwise. Before the annual stockholders' meeting today (Thursday), fans were entertained by last year's highlights on the video board. They included Favre's emotional retirement news conference and at the end, an announcer said, "One of the greatest players will be missed, but not forgotten." Then when the meeting started, Packers' President Mark Murphy wasted no time addressing it. He said the team wants to be fair to Favre, while doing what's in the Packers' best interest. That brought calls from some of the crowd to bring Favre back. General Manager Ted Thompson got more cheers than boos when he was introduced. He called the Favre case a complicated matter and Thompson recognized that fans are split on what should happen. "Families sometimes disagree - and we'll always be family." Thompson told the stockholders. Later, in reviewing the Packer roster, Thompson said there were three quarterbacks. Favre was not mentioned. Published 12:52 Jul-24-08 | TOP |
