• Pierce County woman files lawsuit seeking damages against Minnesota doctor

A Pierce County woman has filed a malpractice lawsuit against a Fairview Red Wing (Minn.) Medical Center doctor.

Denise Enberg, of Prescott, claims Dr. John Sander acted negligently when performing her carpal tunnel surgery in 2004, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Aug. 28 in Goodhue County District Court.

According to the plaintiff's attorney, the case has been reviewed by a board-certified surgeon, who said Sander "departed from the applicable standard of care, causing significant injury" to Enberg's dominant hand.

The complaint goes on to argue that informed consent was not obtained before the surgery, in that Enberg was not advised of the risks and benefits of the procedure or of the alternative treatment options.

Sander, who according to Fariview's Web site focuses on general surgery, denies any negligence in the matter.

The suit asks at least $50,000 in damages - the standard amount applied for in lawsuits.
