Prescott woman injured in motorcycle crash A 39-year-old Prescott woman suffered a possible broken arm Saturday afternoon when she lost control of her motorcycle in a sharp turn and was ejected. Ramona Colsch, Prescott, was transported by Maiden Rock ambulance personnel to Fairview Red Wing Medical Center about 2 p.m. Colsch was traveling southbound on CTH UU just south of Plum City when she attempted to negotiate a sharp corner. The motorcycle left the road and overturned, throwing her. Initial reports from the scene indicated she suffered an arm injury. Colsch was wearing a helmet and alcohol didn't appear to be a factor in the crash, according to Pierce County sheriff's deputy Jean Spletstoser. Rodgers brings Pack back, but defense doesn't hold By Wheeler News Service & RiveTown Newspaper Group The Green Bay Packers have dropped out of first place in the NFC North Division for the first time in more than a year. That's after the Pack lost to Atlanta 27-24 Sunday at Lambeau Field. "Our house is messy right now and nobody is happy about it. We'll continue to work. We're 2-3 and we'll get it cleaned up tomorrow as we head into Seattle," Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters after the game. Green Bay never led, as the Falcons went up 10-0. Still, the Packers could have had a chance to win with less than two minutes to go, had they made the Falcons go three and out. However, Michael Turner plowed for 11 yards on three carries to seal Atlanta's first road win of the season. Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers overcame his dislocated shoulder to complete 25-37 passes for 313 yards and three scores with an interception. "It was painful the entire time. When the sun was out, it was a little warmer, it was a little better. As it cooled off a little bit, the wind started to blow the second half, I just tried to stay warm on the sidelines the entire time. But I was definitely in some pain the entire time," Rodgers said. McCarthy said that while Rodgers performed well, he could see the injury was affecting the quarterback's performance. "He didn't throw with the velocity that he's capable of throwing. But I thought he did a great job managing the game and he was smart with the football today," McCarthy said. Turner had 121 of Atlanta's 176 rushing yards against a banged-up Green Bay defense. Roddy White had 132 of the Falcons' 194 receiving yards. Both Turner and White had touchdowns, and Atlanta rookie quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 194 yards, two touchdown's and an interception. Atlanta improved to 3-2 while the Packers have lost three straight, falling to 2-3. They play at Seattle next Sunday. Jennings had four catches four 87 yards and a touchdown. Donald Driver and Donald Lee had the Pack's other two touchdowns. Driver's touchdown catch was the 40th of his career, making him the eighth player in franchise history to record 40 touchdown catches. Offensive tackle Chad Clifton left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. His status is not known. Defensive end Michael Montgomery hurt his ankle and did not return to the game adding to the defensive line injury woes. Ryan Grant had 83 of the Packers' 104 rushing yards. "We did a better job blocking, I think I did a little bit better job running, but like I said, at the end of the day, we didn't do enough and that's what counts," Grant told reporters. He added that the offense needs to work more on the fundamentals and on not making mistakes. However, penalties hurt the Packers again. They were flagged nine times for 97 yards. Green Bay is now the second-most penalized team in the NFL with 44 flags this season to 47 for Carolina. Another factor which hurt the Packers was field position. Penalties and poor special teams play often made the Packers start deep in their own end of the filed or having long third down situations, while giving Atlanta favorable position. "Field position, for the third week in a row, continues to be a problem. I don't know what the outcome was or the hidden yardage, but it looked like they played with better field position than we did," McCarthy said. The Chicago Bears now lead the NFC North, with a one-game advantage over the Packers. The Bears crushed the Lions in Detroit 34-7. Minnesota is 1-3 going into its Monday Night contest at New Orleans while Detroit is 0-4. Published 09:37 Oct-06-08 | TOP |
Another large marijuana-growing operation found, this time near Durand The Pepin County Sheriff's Department along with the West Central Drug Task Force have discovered another large marijuana-growing operation in the region -- this time near Durand. This operation was found Sept. 29, on a farm off Highway 25 in the Town of Waubeek, about three miles north of Durand. Authorities say they found more than 400 marijuana plants with an estimated street value exceeding $150,000. According to Chief Deputy Kim Seipel of the Pepin County Sheriff's Department, the landowner discovered the plants and alerted authorities. At the scene officers also found gardening tools and fertilizer. The find was very similar to one found in Pierce County about two weeks earlier. "We believe there is a strong connection between the two," said Seipel. The Pierce County growing operation was discovered by a hunter and the estimated street value of the find was more than $250,000. Like the Pepin County find, the landowner in Pierce County was not aware of the operation. The Pierce County operation was discovered along the Rush River, about two miles north of Highway 10 and approximately eight miles northwest of Plum City. No arrests have been made in connection with the Pepin County growing operation. Authorities ask that anyone who has information about the operation contact the Pepin County Sheriff's Department at 715.672.5944. Published 15:15 Oct-06-08 | TOP |
