Ex-Prescott man gets three years prison for child porn

By Jason Schulte, RiverTowns staff

A former Prescott man was sentenced Monday in Pierce County Circuit Court to 36 months prison and four years extended supervision upon release for two counts of possession of child pornography.

Michael D. Condon, Sr., 46, must also complete a sex offender evaluation and comply with all treatment. He also cannot have any contact with anyone under age 18 and have no possession of a computer or access to a computer.

"He has a history of law enforcement contacts going back 19 years," explained Circuit Court Judge Robert Wing in his sentencing. "In the past, the only time he's stopped committing offenses was while he was in prison."

Condon was initially charged in June 2007 with six counts of possession of child pornography. Two were dismissed in July of that year while the other two were dismissed last November as part of a plea agreement.

According to the criminal complaint, Prescott police interviewed Condon at the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, Minn., in May 2007, where he was being booked on a separate incident. Condon initially told police he looked at pornography, but there was nothing serious about it.

"I just look at websites, just like anybody else," he said. "When they're offensive to me, I stop looking at them."

He then said he didn't save the images on the computer and deleted the history after visiting those sites so his children wouldn't see it.

Later in the interview, police pressed him about what would be on the computers. He stated one would find mainly e-mails, his work website and no downloaded pictures.

Police asked again and, after listing business and Google-related searches, he said "you know as well as I do your (sic) going to get porn."

Ex-MR man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

By Jason Schulte, RiverTowns staff

A former Maiden Rock man pled guilty Monday in Pierce County Circuit Court to vehicular homicide by use of a controlled substance.

Jeffrey Carlisle, 29, St. Paul, also pled guilty to reckless driving to cause great bodily harm. He will be sentenced on those charges at 1 p.m. Monday, March 9.

The charges stem from an April 2007 incident in which Carlisle was involved in a multi-vehicle accident that killed Michele A. Bevier, 42, Prescott.

According to the criminal complaint, which was filed in October 2007, Carlisle was driving a 2002 Cadillac Escalade on Hwy. 35 in the Town of Oak Grove when his vehicle struck a 2005 Volvo head-on that was driven by Bevier, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Dana Laird, 44, was a passenger.

Both Carlisle and Laird were transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. In their reports, Pierce County Sheriff's deputies stated they couldn't smell any intoxicants coming from Carlisle, but found out two days later a toxicology screen showed he had cocaine and opiates in his blood. That was also confirmed by the Wisconsin State Patrol, who found Carlisle had cocaine metabolite, methadone, methadone metabolite and hydrocodone in his bloodstream.
