Man airlifted following crash near Maiden Rock

A man was airlifted from Hwy. 35 north of Maiden Rock early Saturday afternoon after he lost control of his car on a patch of ice and it rolled over on a town road outside the village.

The victim's name wasn't available but caregivers aboard the Mayo helicopter told a Regions Hospital dispatcher that he was complaining of severe lower back, hip and abdominal pain.

Volunteers from the Lund Fire Department and Maiden Rock Ambulance Service responded to the crash, along with Pierce County sheriff's deputies and a State Trooper, about 11:40 a.m.

The car left 110th Street near 385th Avenue near the Maiden Rock Cemetery, traveled down an embankment and rolled onto its side against a tree.

It took rescuers at least 40 minutes to free the victim, according to Mayo personnel. He was transported by ambulance to the helicopter landing site, then on to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

More details will be posted when they become available.
