• Two cyclists and rider hospitalized after Saturday crash

ELMWOOD -- A man and woman from Cottage Grove, Minn., were airlifted to Regions Hospital late Saturday and another Minnesota cyclist was transported to River Falls Area Hospital after their one motorcycle struck a truck then collided with the other cycle.

Ronald Saltz, 45, and his passenger, Rosemary Rodriguez, 42, were flown in separate helicopters from the crash scene, on Hwy. 128 just north of the village of Elmwood shortly after 5 p.m.

Another cyclist, Daniel Schreier, 23, of Lexington, Minn., was transported by ground ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital where he was treated and released.

The crash occurred after Saltz' motorcycle, southbound on 128, crossed into the northbound lane on a sharp curve and hit a northbound Chevrolet Suburban driven by Charles Harmon, 63, of Hudson.

The second cycle, driven by Schreier, then struck the Saltz motorcycle as it crossed back into the southbound lane.

Harmon wasn't injured, according to Pierce sheriff's deputy Jean Spletstoser.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Elmwood Fire and Ambulance personnel, Spring Valley Fire and Ambulance, a paramedic from the River Falls Area Ambulance Service and St. Croix County sheriff's deputies.

Conditions on Saltz and Rodriguez were not readily available Monday morning.
