River Falls teenager gets three years probation for police battery

A River Falls teenager was sentenced Tuesday in Pierce County Circuit Court to three years probation for battery and spitting on police officers.

Jeramy R. Stuart, 18, 1450 S. Wasson Lane, No. 72, was charged with the two felonies in separate incidents back in July.

The battery charge resulted from a July 16 incident in which River Falls police were called to the walking path by the Kinnikinnic River on River Ridge Road for juveniles that appeared to be intoxicated.

Police identified one of the three individuals as Stuart and directed him to go towards their squad cars. When he refused, officer Eric Van Nocker went "hands on" with Stuart and directed him towards the hood, according to his report in the criminal complaint.

Van Nocker said that he felt Stuart was being cooperative, so he allowed Stuart to stand back up. After that, fellow officer Beth Posel asked Stuart to submit to a breathalyzer test as Van Nocker stated, "I could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from Stuart's person and I did note him to be under the age of 21."
