Bush may stop in River Falls

The latest buzz from the President Bush's re-election campaign is that the president will drive through River Falls early Wednesday afternoon.

If the crowd is sizable, Bush may even stop briefly in downtown River Falls, possibly at Treasures From the Heart or Lund's Hardware.

"We're hoping he'll stop here," said Kari Gaustad, of the Pierce County Republican Party and local communication director for the Bush/Cheney campaign. "People are excited. I've been calling them to get the word out."

Gaustad said her information has Bush passing through River Falls sometime between 1:45 and 2:30 p.m. His motorcade is scheduled to travel west on Hwy. 29 from a campaign stop in Chippewa Falls, go through River Falls on Cascade Avenue, then turn north on Main Street on his way to a riverside appearance in Hudson before attending a late-afternoon rally in St. Paul.

Gaustad said even if Bush doesn't stop in River Falls, onlookers can catch a glimpse of him waving in his car.

And Beldenville farmer and former state senator Jim Harsdorf said he was called by the Bush/Cheney campaign twice this week about the possibility of the president visiting the Harsdorf dairy farm on Hwy. 65.
