Packer Rundown: In little league; Marviel's second chance By Wheeler News Service & RiverTown Newspaper Group The Green Bay Packers started practicing Sunday for their Thursday night showdown at Dallas and Head Coach Mike McCarthy told his players not to worry about the fact that Green Bay has not won at Texas Stadium since 1989. "I told our football team, 90 percent of you were in little league the last time we played there. It's really irrelevant," McCarthy said. "What they should be talking about is how many road games we've won in the last two years here because that, in my opinion, pertains to us as a football team," he added. Quarterback Brett Favre is 0-8 there and he says he'd love to get that monkey off his back. Favre said each of those losses were tough. "We hope that changes this week. We know they are a good football team, they're playing great. I think we're playing good too," said Favre. Three were in the playoffs, including the 1995 NFC Championship Game in which they lost 38-27 before winning the Super Bowl the following year. Now, both the Packers and Cowboys come in at 10-1 and Favre is having his best season in years. He has averaged 327.5 yards over his last four games. Cowboys' coach Wade Phillips says it's unbelievable how much in sync Favre's receivers are. Marviel's second chance Safety Marviel Underwood is back with the Packers. He was cut at training camp August 21st, after missing most of the previous season with a banged-up knee, but Underwood was recalled during the weekend after two other safeties got hurt. Nick Collins has been out with a knee injury, but coach Mike McCarthy says he could be healthy enough to start Thursday night at Dallas. Collins' back-up, rookie Aaron Rouse, sprained a knee last Thursday at Detroit and status for the Cowboys' game is still in question. Underwood had his first practice Sunday. He said the time off was frustrating, but it was good for his injured knee. Since being cut, Underwood has been working out at San Diego State with the brother of Packers' defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. "It looks like he's kept himself in good shape and ready to go," McCarthy said. Keeping himself may pay off as McCarthy added that Underwood might get a chance to start. Underwood takes the roster spot held by defensive lineman Colin Cole, who was put on injured reserve over the weekend with a broken forearm suffered against the Lions. Also, the Packers signed former Rutgers corner Joe Porter to their practice squad and they released safety Tristan Burge. Published 09:32 Nov-26-07 | TOP |
