• Land trust applies for grant to purchase land in Pierce County

The Kinnickinnic River Land Trust has applied for a 50 percent matching grant in order to purchase land in the Town of Clifton in Pierce County.

The grant application was made to the habitat segment of the Nelson-Knowles Stewardship program.

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say the land eyed by the trust is part of the DNR's Kinnickinnic River Priority Watershed Project and contains rolling hills, mixed hardwood forests, bluffs, spectacular scenery and large grassland areas.

According to the DNR, the land would be open to the public for low-impact recreational activities which include hunting, trapping, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
