Ventura endores controversial ex-UW professor for 3rd Congressional seat

By Wheeler News Service

Kevin Barrett , the former University of Wisconsin-Madison lecturer who said the Bush administration caused 9/11, has gotten an interesting endorsement in his bid for Congress.

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura said Thursday he supports Barrett as the Libertarian candidate for the Third District House seat now held by La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind.

Ventura ran outside the two-party system when he was elected as Minnesota's governor in 1998. He served one four-year term.

Ventura said he didn't buy the government's story that the fire from a terrorist plane brought down New York's World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 and Ventura said he agrees with Barrett that America's troops in Iraq should be brought home immediately.

State Treasurer to visit River Falls elementary school

Rocky Branch Elementary School in River Falls will be playing host to Wisconsin's State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass on Sept. 10.

Sass will be at the school at 1 p.m. to talk to students about the importance of saving for college. Rep. Kitty Rhoades, R-Hudson, will host the treasurer on her visit to River Falls.

"We all know that the best way for children to achieve their dreams is to attend college," said Sass.

Her visit is in conjunction with College Savings Month in the state. During the month Sass will be meeting with students, parents, grandparents and community members about the state's EdVest program.

Under the program, families can open an EdVest account that allows state taxpayers to get a state income tax deduction on their contributions to the account.

According state treasury department officials, EdVest is the state-sponsored tax-advantaged 529 college savings program.

Before her River Falls visit, Sass will be at the Park View Elementary School in Chippewa Falls at 11 a.m.

More information about EdVest is available at www.edvest.org.
