Boys burned by fireworks explosion By Phil Pfuehler, RiverTown Staff Six high school-age male students apparently set off fireworks while riding in a van just outside River Falls. The explosion burned all six, leaving blistering marks on their hands and arms. At least two had to see a doctor. One boy was to see a specialist for second- and third-degree burns to his backside, side and hands. The incident happened late afternoon last week Thursday. The boys and the van ended up stopping in the 300 block of Spring Creek Drive. That's a new housing development on the city's south side. An officer called to investigate said it looked as if the inside of the van was blown up by a bomb with DVDs, video games, jackets and backpacks left scorched. A marijuana pipe was confiscated from the damaged van's floorboard. An 18-year-old rural River Falls boy was then cited for drug paraphernalia possession and driving while suspended-2nd offense. Police and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department are working together on various details pertaining to this incident. Published 09:43 Mar-10-09 | TOP |
