RIVER FALLS: Dry weather induces burn ban

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Moody reported late Thursday afternoon that the department declared a burn ban in effect for the River Falls Fire District, which includes the towns of Clifton, Kinnickinnic, Pleasant Valley, River Falls and Troy.

The ban includes controlled burns for weeds, bonfires, fire pits and other sources that could produce sparks. Chiefs gauge the need for bans based the region's weather conditions, which have been unusually dry.

They declared a ban on April 13 that didn't end for two weeks. Until the area gets drenching rains, it isn't safe to burn.

Residents can check on the status of burn bans by calling the non-emergency center in their county. Chiefs in all fire districts inform them first when a ban is on and when one is lifted.

The Pierce County non-emergency dispatch number: 715-273-5051.

The St. Croix County non-emergency dispatch number: 715-386-4701.
