The Spring Valley High School Drama group will perform "HONK!" a family-friendly and charmingly funny musical based on "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Andersen.

What happens when the barnyard is disrupted by the hatching of a very unusual duckling who doesn't look, sound, or act like anyone else? Well there's mayhem, confusion, and yes, a fair amount of bullying. Poor Ugly Duckling! He doesn't fit in. Convinced that the sneaky Cat is his new friend, Ugly wanders away from home and ends up lost in a big wide world - meeting the Goose Patrol, the friendly Bullfrog, and the beautiful swan Penny. Will he find his way home to his loving mother, Ida and his unaccepting father, Drake? Will his duckling siblings learn that being different is okay? Will that villainous Cat meet her comeuppance? Will there be a happy ending to this story? Come and see!

The 21 students in rehearsal for this show include SVHS seniors Braeden DuMond as "Ugly," Brenna Schreiber as "Ida," Kenny Fesenmaier as "Drake," Abbey Graham as "Cat," Joshua Hannack as "Turkey," Madison Maier as "Maureen," Maria Reusch as "Henrietta," Ben Anderson as "Greylag," and Eric Eidem as "Bullfrog;" juniors Emma Esanbock, Briana Link, Kari Hybben, Rachael Bell, Katherine Dieckman; sophomores Elijah DuMond, Ella Esanbock, Aivary Stein, Cullen Rogers, Rebecca Schneider; and freshmen Tyler Bowman and Coy Stasiek.

Help offstage is provided by choreographer Taylor Falde, sound technician Sam Niebeling, backstage management Kaitlin Graham, Allison Graham, Claire Anderson; prompter Anastasija Jovanovic; photographer Belle Peterson; and house management Carri and Jade DuMond.

HONK! performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9; 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Spring Valley Stagehands Theatre. Tickets are available at the door only and doors open one hour prior to curtain.
