The long-time incumbents will be the only candidates on the ballots when Pierce and St. Croix county residents vote for clerks of court Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Lori Meyer, Hudson, a Republican, has been St. Croix County’s clerk of court for 18 years. Peg Feuerhelm, Ellsworth, a Democrat, has been Pierce County clerk of court for six years.

The clerks of court now serve four-year terms.

Meyer, who supervises 16 employees, has worked for the county 21 years, working the first three years in the Child Support Department.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Cardinal Stritch University and is working on a master’s degree in education through UW-River Falls.

Feuerhelm, who has worked in the Pierce County clerk of court office for 27 years, was a deputy clerk of court for the first 21 years. She supervises five employees in the office. She attended college for a year at UW-Eau Claire.

The clerks of court offices provide administrative and recordkeeping services for county court. Clerk of court workers manage lawsuit files, including civil, small claims, condemnation, criminal, traffic, divorce, paternity and family cases.

Workers in these offices open new cases, schedule cases for hearings, take court minutes, docket pleadings, enter judgments in civil and small claims actions, prepare criminal conviction papers, enter and vacate warrants and summon jurors. Clerks of court also collect fees and fines related to traffic and criminal cases.
