Parlin will discuss changes in Pakistan

Dr. Nancy Parlin, retired professor and of sociology and vice chancellor at UW-River Falls, will present a program entitled “Return to Pakistan: 1962 to 2009” Jan. 19 at the Grand Banquet Center in Stillwater, Minn.

Parlin worked in a teacher training program and traveled in Pakistan during the summer of 2009. She will present her observations on the current situation and how the country has changed since she was a Peace Corps volunteer there from 1962 to 1965 and her visits in 1977 and 1991.

In recent years, Parlin has traveled to Iran with a Fellowship of Reconciliation delegation and to Israel and Palestine with the Interfaith Peace Builders. She has done volunteer projects with Habitat for Humanity and Global Volunteers in India, Kenya and Costa Rica.

The presentation is part of a public affairs luncheon series called “Conservations of the Valley.” The series is sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Foundation with financial support from First State Bank and Trust.

The program will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at The Grand Banquet Center, 301 S. Second St., Stillwater.

The cost of the lunch and program is $17 and must be paid in advance.
