MENOMONIE – Shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, a buck crashed through a window in UW-Stout Vocational Rehabilitation building, causing about $5,500 in damage, according to university officials.
The deer was being chased by a dog, and the injured buck thrashed around the building before leaving though the building’s automatic doors on the south side of the building.
The damage includes window repair and cleaning up a trail of blood on the ground floor of the building. The window has been boarded over until workers can fit a new piece of glass.
Authorities tracked the deer as it ran in a south through campus, but the trail ended, and the deer was not located.
There is no video of the incident since the building was not covered by surveillance cameras, said Doug Mell, executive director of communications and external relations.
