St. Croix Valley SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) is a non-profit organization that provides free comprehensive services to victims of sexual assault. Since its inception in 2001, SART has partnered with local medical communities and law enforcement agencies to create a unique program that solely addresses sexual assault.
SART’s forensic nurse examiners and volunteer advocates assist and support victims from their initial examination following an assault through the prosecution of the suspect. Forensic nurse examiners are specially trained to perform medical examinations, treat injuries, collect evidence to identify and help prosecute the suspect, test for date-rape drugs, and offer medications for sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive health concerns. Follow-up care for the victim and his or her loved ones is available as well.
SART mainly serves sexual assault victims in the tri-county area of Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties. However, any man, woman, or child (13 years or older) who are sexual assault victims may come to the SART Center for help.
Kristi Pavek has been the executive director of St. Croix Valley SART since it began and works with a community-based board of directors.
