Minnesota driver in fatal crash pleads guilty

The man who prosecutors say was driving in a fatal collision that left a Woodville woman dead pleaded guilty last week in the case.

Lonsdale, Minn., resident Cody A. Stephenson pleaded guilty Wednesday, July 1, to homicide by vehicle involving a controlled substance. Four other related felonies will be dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

According to a criminal complaint, Stephenson was the driver in a Jan. 13 crash in the town of Erin Prairie that left Deborah M. Bugni dead. Stephenson allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at county roads T and G near the Erin Corners Bar and struck the passenger side of Bugni’s car.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered at last week’s hearing. Stephenson will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Sept. 11.
