Expulsions reach all-time high

More students were expelled from the Hudson School District during the 1998-99 school term than any other in the past six years according to a report presented to the board of education last Tuesday by Mary Sweet, director of pupil services for the district.

Vendors gear up for business 'boom' as Fourth of July holiday approaches

Jensen's Fireworks Jensen's opened June 15th and will be open until July 7th. After the Fourth, all fireworks are half off.

It's a tradition to celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang, and firework sales in Hudson skyrocket this time of year. Several gas stations carry small assortments of fireworks, but other stores like Cornellier and Jensen's Fireworks specialize in the explosive business.

Gunderson keeps promise to open adult bookstore in downtown area

Centerfolds Cabaret is now an adult bookstore, just as owner Thor Gunderson said it would be if the Hudson City Council adopted an ordinance restricting nude dancing.

Highway 35
The new route for the Highway 35 bypass crosses back and forth over the existing road. At the top of the photo is the St. Croix River and Hudson. The cross road which is visible is Glover Road.

Major road construction projects are changing the look of the countryside near both Hudson and River Falls.

Bomb squad called Saturday to open suspicious black box

Part of the Mills Fleet Farm parking lot was cordoned off for three hours Saturday while police dealt with a suspicious looking black box found in a cart corral.
