Concert in Lakefront Park June 24, 1999
Looking for shade

The 451st Fort Snelling Army Band played at the band shell in Lakefront Park June 24 and most in attendance found spots in the shade during the hot summer evening. It was one of the band's stops on week-long tour of the region which included stops throughout northwestern Wisconsin. The concert was part of the concerts in the park series sponsored by the City of Hudson Parks and Recreation Department.

State's fireworks law is confusing

You can buy sparklers, fountains, ground spinners or smoke bombs from any of 11 licensed vendors in the city of Hudson.

Fireworks safety a priority

The Booster Club is taking all necessary precautions to make sure the Booster Days fireworks are fun and safe. Many safety precautions are in place in case something goes wrong. The fire department provides a fire engine, as well as an ambulance in case of emergency. The coast guard monitors the bay, making sure boats are a good distance away from the shore where the fireworks are set off. The club also purchases a $2 million insurance policy from the city for liability.

Booster Days set this weekend here

The annual Booster Days celebration in Hudson begins tonight with a free concert by the Minnesota Orchestra and ends Monday, July 5 with fireworks over the St. Croix River.

Woman pilot, 81, flies across the country to visit friend in Hudson

Mayetta Behringer and Jeanne Olstad Mayetta Behringer, left, and Jeanne Olstad have been lifelong friends who try to meet each other once a year. This summer, May, an experienced pilot, flew cross-country from her home in California to meet with Jeanne in Hudson.

When Mayetta Behringer wants to meet up with her childhood friend Jeanne Olstad of Hudson, she simply hops into her airplane and starts a cross-country flight. Last Thursday, May flew to the Lake Elmo Airport from her daughter's home in Richmond, Ill., to meet Jeanne and have lunch at Mama Maria's in North Hudson.

Minnesota Orchestra concert is tonight

The Phipps Center for the Arts' 14th annual free outdoor concert by the Minnesota Orchestra is tonight, 7:30 p.m. in the Lakefront Park band shell.

St. Patrick's looks at expanding school

St. Patrick's Church is exploring the possibility of expanding its parochial school with hopes of having a bigger facility for the start of school in the fall of 2000.
