Fireworks safety a priority
By Lori Bower
The Booster Club is taking all necessary precautions to make sure the Booster Days fireworks are fun and safe. Many safety precautions are in place in case something goes wrong. The fire department provides a fire engine, as well as an ambulance in case of emergency. The coast guard monitors the bay, making sure boats are a good distance away from the shore where the fireworks are set off. The club also purchases a $2 million insurance policy from the city for liability. The club purchases fireworks from Greg Elliott, salesman for Spielbauer Fireworks, and has been since 1986. Spielbauer Fireworks is a company based in Green Bay. "We sell the Booster Club pre-assembled packages plus whatever extra fireworks to fit the program they want to have," Elliott said. Spielbauer hires Booster Club members to launch the fireworks, Elliott said. Several club members are veteran launchers, and are involved from year-to-year. Club member Doug Rose said they try to get the most for their money. "One year we ordered a flag for the end of the display," Rose said. "We decided not to use it again and use that money for more fireworks." This year's display begins at dusk, approximately 10 p.m., Monday, July 5.
