Health Foundation fund-raiser draws 183 golfing participants
Winners in the golf competition and $50 pro shop gift certificates each were the team of Gordy Campbell, Bill Sievers, Steve Hewitt, Al Hager, Jerry Moe and Darrell Rooney. They shot a 13-under-par 58. The first place team was one sponsored by Wally McCarthy, a Twin Cities auto dealer who was a neighbor and friend of the late Al and Laurie Hein. McCarthy, a consistent supporter of the tournament over the years, brought 32 golfers to this year's event. In second place with a 59 were Susie Gilbert, Todd Messmer, Steve Landgraf, Ron Siembeck, Kevin Beranek and Rob Gandrud. They each got $35 gift certificates. Four teams had scores of 11 under par 60, so scorecards were matched to determine the winners of third through fifth place. Third place went to Clyde Johnson, Bruce Morgan, Paul Rogosheski and Drs. Pat Cronin, Steve Schmitz and Butch Leyda. They got $25 each. In fourth place were Wally McCarthy, Todd Garamella, Ian Moquist, John Fugari, Jeremy Segal and Josh Segal, who won $20 gift certificates. The fifth place team included Steve McCue, Bob Wild, Tom Grande, Luanne Mayer, Ron Less and Sam Cari. The grand drawing prize of $250 in Chamber Bucks was won by Jason Christenson. Other prize winners included George Hoel, a satellite dish donated by Hubbard Broadcasting; foundation president Dan Greenwald, a barbecue grill; Dan Dixon, $100 in Chamber Bucks; John Herton, a balloon ride donated by Stillwater Balloon; Gary Kazmarczek, a $100 gift certificate donated by Kelley Galleries; and Mike Mosler, an airplane ride donated by Griggs Aviation. Michael Korf won a putter in the putting contest. A special raffle for a basket of Beanie Babies was won by Jean Greenwald. Winners of individual contests included: longest putts: Jerry Moel, K. Rodenbeck and Jay Rohkohl; longest drives: Blake St. Ores, Trish Nelson, Ron Sienbeck, Dave Graebner, Pete Seguin, Sandie Frisell, Peter Ritten, Jeff DeYoung and Sandie Frisell; closest to pin: Gordy Campbell, Bob Wild, Dan Stegman, Mike Korf and Dr. Pat Cronin. There were no winners in the three hole-in-one contests, one for a new car and two for $500 each. A new category of sponsorship was added this year at the $500 level and several organizations and businesses contributed. They include Yellow River Supply Corporation, St. Croix Orthopaedics, Regions Hospital, Randy Iten Chevrolet, Hudson Physicians, HealthPartners, Gavic Construction, First National Bank, Credit Services International, Consulting Radiologists, Briggs and Morgan and Central Regional Pathology Labs. Several organizations brought groups of golfers to the event, including First National Bank, which had 14 employees and 17 other guests in attendance. Hudson Physicians had seven golfers and six golfers were entered by Credit Service International, Erickson Oil, Investment Centers of America, Citizens State Bank and BWBR Architects. Chairmen for the event this year were Kelly Dunn and Steve Tracey. Other foundation board members are President Dan Greenwald, Vice President Jay Griggs, Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Steve Schmitz, Mimi Kron, Sam Cari, Nini Milbrath and Al Burchill. An advertisement listing all the sponsors, volunteers and donors can be found elsewhere in this week's Star-Observer. Next year's event will be held Monday, August 21.
