Raiders sweep four-team tennis match at River Falls

The Hudson Raiders girls tennis team beat three more teams last week, while dropping a match to defending state runner-up Eau Claire Memorial.

Going into a Tuesday night match at New Richmond, the Raiders had a 4-1 season record.

"Wow, what a day. I have to admit the girls exceeded my expectations," Coach Dave Dahl said after the girls defeated Durand 5-2, Woodbury, Minn., 6-1, and River Falls 5-2 in a triple dual match Saturday at River Falls.

The Raiders won 16 of the 21 matches they played on Saturday.

"We're starting to reap the rewards of experience and lots of competition within the team ranks," Dahl said.

The Raiders dropped all three matches to the same three teams a year ago.

All 14 girls on the team saw action Saturday and Dahl said they all deserved praise.

"Now we have to use this momentum as we enter the heart of our conference schedule," he said.

Lost conference opener

The Raiders lost their conference opener 7-0 to the girls from Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday, Aug. 26.

"Although the final score doesn't look very good, we actually hit pretty well with Memorial," Dahl said.

He said the girls won three times as many games (32) as when the two teams played last year.

Memorial finished second in the state tournament last year and their coach, Jim Litscher, thinks they may be stronger this year, according to Dahl.
