Theater robbery suspect arrested in Michigan

The chief suspect in an armed robbery at Hudson Southside Cinema this summer was arrested last week in Saginaw, Mich.

Byron K. Lewis, 28, of St. Paul was taken into custody by a task force of Michigan law enforcement agents. He was traced to Saginaw through phone calls made on a cell phone that was recovered at one of the robberies.

Lewis is suspected in a series of movie theater robberies this summer including the armed robbery at Southside Cinema on July 2.

Lewis allegedly got away with $1,000 in cash and two tapes in the Hudson robbery. He is also the chief suspect in theater robberies in St. Paul, Forest Lake and Stillwater. In each case he threatened employees with a long-barreled revolver.

Following extradition to Minnesota where Lewis is wanted for questioning by at least six law enforcement agencies, he will be interviewed by Hudson police before charges are filed in St. Croix County.

Lewis is currently being held in Saginaw awaiting extradition.
