Board approves strategy for replacing Krizek

By Doug Stohlberg

The St. Croix County Board Tuesday approved procedures for hiring an administrative coordinator to replace John Krizek who resigned Sept. 16.

The board first approved a motion to fill the position as it now stands. The board then approved the appointment of two separate committees to screen and interview applicants for the position.

Under the plan, County Board Chair Tom Dorsey, New Richmond, will appoint both committees. The first will include one member each from the Personnel, Administration and Finance Committee. The three will join Personnel Director Debra Kathan in choosing candidates for interviews.

The second committee would include a different member from each of the three committees. The trio would be joined by Dorsey and the Board Vice Chair, Art Jacobson, Woodville. That committee would select the final candidate and make a presentation to the County Board for final approval.

Hudson area board members Tom O'Connell, Einar Horne and Don Brown questioned the procedure, asking if the board shouldn't be involved in the selection process, rather than being presented one choice.

Hudson area board members Herb Giese and Bill Krueger said the board should not be involved.

"We can't have this many people (31 board members) involved in the decision," Giese said.

Hudson board member Nancy Bieraugel questioned whether two separate committees were needed.

"I want to break it up so that one person can't push an applicant through the process," Dorsey said.
